Infrastructure engineer

I build things with Claude: telescope software, music tools for my kids, and a lot of automation.

On the workbench

telescopeyoke's Imaging screen: the newest frame beside the stack so far, every frame's quality marked good, and seven frames rejected for cloud

On 3 October I put a laptop outside beside a new motorised mount and told Claude it was hooked up to a telescope. Two weeks on, telescopeyoke centres every GoTo by plate solving, measures the polar alignment and stacks the night's pictures while I watch from indoors. Claude does the sums and I do the looking. Next up: nightly nova patrols of M31 and M33, built but not yet proved on the sky.

How it works

I was a chef until 2005.

Then a first job in IT, as a server administrator, and twenty-one years since: schools right across Northern Ireland, a Wall Street bank's command centre, and now Telefonica Tech, on the infrastructure of the new National Children's Hospital in Dublin. No degree. I taught myself, and I still do.

At home I do the same with different kit: a bass, an Arduino, and a telescope I couldn't set up perfectly in a back garden, so I built software to measure what was wrong instead. Most of it I build with Claude, and the diary keeps an honest record of what worked and what didn't.
